Editorial Director

Advantage Media Group and ForbesBooks have an exciting opportunity for an Editorial Director with experience in book publishing, editing, and content marketing. Advantage works with top tier business professionals to position, promote, and market them as a thought leader and expert in their industry, community, or marketplace.

The mission of the Editorial Director (ED) is to work with our clients from an executed publishing agreement to final manuscript, and to oversee the content for all marketing deliverables that are a part of the Authority Marketing System. This position demands editorial excellence at every level. The ED will achieve this goal by proactively interacting with clients, reviewing and editing content for consistency, quality, style, voice, and tone, and tracking and managing the editorial life cycle for the Advantage Marketing and Advantage Publishing and teams.

 Outcomes (expected within the first 12 months):

  • Grow the editorial bench for both Advantage Marketing and Advantage Publishing by 50%. Recruit, grow, manage, and lead teams of editors and marketing professionals that perform the writing and editing functions for our clients.
  • Deliver >95% of all editorial projects at or under budget and within contract timeframe.
  • Strategically design your business unit to seamlessly scale to 1,000 active Members by December 31, 2018. Implement systems and processes to automate and improve the service delivery process. Create “work smart” team systems that support the top-notch delivery of services for 100% of Members.
  • Contribute to the leadership team meetings, strategy and planning sessions. Be a leader for the company and a role model and teacher for internal Team Members. Lead daily and weekly meetings, foster a culture and build an environment for success.

  • Hires A players – Does not tolerate mediocrity and sets a very high standard for team.
  • Organization and planning - Must be driven by results, and take appropriate steps to achieve goals while taking ownership of situations as needed. Plans, organizes, schedules and budgets in an efficient, productive manner. Focuses on key priorities.

Preferred Skills and Experiences

  • A minimum of 10 years of editorial/book publishing/marketing/management experience 
  • Thorough knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style, 16th Edition and an expert in best practices in grammar, messaging, writing and style
  • Deep understanding of business content and strong working knowledge in audience development and principles of content strategy
  • Focused on new ideas, results and building and maintaining long-term relationships with our clients
  • Solid portfolio of writing samples
  • 4 year college degree

The position reports to the President of Advantage Marketing and Advantage Publishing and is located in our Charleston, SC office. Direct reports include functional managers in the business units. Business travel of 5 - 10 days per month.
