Associate Editor

Advantage Media Group and ForbesBooks have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Editor with experience in book writing and editing. ForbesBooks works with top tier business professionals to position, promote, and market them as the thought leader and expert in their industry, community, or marketplace.

The mission of the Associate Editor (AE) is to work with our clients from an executed publishing agreement to final manuscript approval, and deliver editorial support and excellence throughout the process. The AE will achieve this goal by proactively interacting with clients, reviewing, tracking and managing the editorial life cycle and educating clients on the publishing process as a whole.

You must have strong attention to detail and care about over-delivering for clients. Each book we publish serves as a calling card for our professional clients. Their reputation is judged by the quality of the book, as is ours. You must have a desire to continually improve editorial content and the process for our clients.

The outcomes expected of this individual are:

  • Ensure the completion of >180 editorial steps annually. Our c-level clients require precise execution of the deliverables in their Publishing Plan.
  • Guarantee <1 editorial error per 2,500 words
  • Write front and back cover matter for clients and help with acknowledgments and testimonials.
  • Responsible for the final manuscript proof to ensure editorial excellence prior to printing.
  • Ensure that 100% of all front matter, testimonials, permissions and sources are completed by CE for each manuscript.
  • Client Experience Survey of >8.5. Assist your account team in delivering world class service and creating an “Enjoyable, Fun, and Prosperous membership experience” for each client.

  • Problem Solving Mindset. Flexible attitude to test new approaches and adjust activities in order to solve unique client challenges.
  • Teamwork. Reaches out to peers and cooperates with supervisors to establish an overall collaborative working relationship.

Preferred Skills and Experiences:

  • Minimum of three years copyediting experience
  • Exceptional writing, editing, grammar, spelling and communication skills
  • Thorough knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines
  • High level of competency in Microsoft Word and Track Changes
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a highly creative and senior level clientele

Positions are in our Charleston, SC office. Team Members are eligible for benefits package after a 3 month review.
